Breakfast for Dinner

It's starting to become a "tradition" that if Dada works late or is out of town, we have breakfast for dinner.  Breakfast is thier best meal that they actaully sit and eat more than a few bites so when we have this they do really well.  Tonight it was panckake, bacon and blackberries.  Yummy.

J-E-L-LO!

I went to Mom's Night Out with the playgroup tonight so I made sure to make Brian and the girls a nice dinner.  I even made dessert!  Ok, ok, it was just Jello, but it dawned on me as I served it to them that the girls had never had Jello before.  I think I've never made it because it doesn't have many calories or nutrients so I didn't see any benefit in making it for them.  Paige really enjoyed the wiggle, jiggle part of it and Brian showed them how the "slurp" it up.  Hailey didn't quite get the slurp concept because she kept spitting it out.  But they had fun with it nonetheless.  I even sang the old commercial tune to them:

"Watch it Wiggle, see it Jiggle, cool and fruity, Jello brand gelatin... of all desserts you'll love the one, that tastes so great and is such fun, make Jello, gelatin and Make some fun... J-E-L-L-O"

Brian wasn't impressed with my singing ability, but the girls giggled.

1st Shamrock Shakes

Brian and I were going out on a date night last Saturday so I got the girls McDonald's Happy Meals with Shamrock Shakes.  They missed out on them last year when we went on the actual St Patrick's Day to get them and they were out!  I had forgotten they are chocolate mint flavored.  The girls enjoyed them through the next day because Nanny (who came to care for them while were out) put them in the freezer.  A treat two days in a row!  Obviously, they both loved them.

Yucky Eggs?

This morning I had the girls climb into the stroller and we walked to the grocery store.  I only needed a few things so I figured I could use the stroller as my shopping cart.  Paige can now sit or stand on the stroller and is able to get on & off as she pleases.  It's fine.  It's teaching her how to act in a store and to stay close to me.  Good teaching tool.  Anyway, she got off in the Valentine isle and picked out some Cadbury Creme Eggs (I guess it's the Easter isle too!).  I tried to tell her how "yuck" they would be, but she insisted on getting them.  So in the stroller they went.  I did instruct that we had to wait to get home to eat them at the table (I was remembering how messy they were.)  Of course she wanted to go home right away.  When we got home they both sat at the table and even wore bibs despite knowing that "little girls" don't wear bibs anymore.  I was delighted to find that they are completely different from what I remember as a kid!  I remember gross, runny, sugary inside that looked like a raw egg.  Nope, not anymore.  It is this delicious frosting like substance that is still white and yellow to look like an egg, but more consistent and thick.  It also had an orange flavor.  Super good!  Here are some pics of them eating their first Cadbury Creme Eggs...I suppose the Easter Bunny will have to put them in their Easter baskets this year.  Yum!

First beater

While Paige was having her "quiet time" today, Hailey and I made banana bread.  This is her first time licking a beater.  (Yes, I let my kiddos lick the raw batter.)  It turned out yummy and I even added some mini chocolate chips at the last second...extra good!

Dada's Home!

I was so surprised tonight when Brian got home at 5:30pm!  He's been working really late or been out of town the past few months.  It's so nice when he's home because he adds some testosterone to the household and makes the girls giggle and turn very crazy.  It's a nice change for them from being around me all day.  Tonight at the dinner table he had them singing Old MacDonald.  It was wonderful.

New Year Apple Coring

While Granny was making dinner tonight to celebrate the New Year she got both girls in the kitchen to help her peel and core apples using her fancy apple corer.  They had so much fun learning how to do it and then actually doing it.  It's clear that Granny is a mama of four of her own and an elementary school teacher.  The girls adore her.

Food

Food has always been a difficult thing with Paige.  She's just not a good eater...born that way.  She has not been eating these past few days (just bites here and there) and is cranky, tired and says she has a stomach ache.  We tell her she needs to eat and she'll feel better, but I just don't think she's at a point yet to make the correlation.  She did spike a little fever tonight, so she may really be ill, but I tend to think all of this is because she has not eaten.

Hailey on the other hand, cannot get enough to eat.  She eats ALL day.  Today we went to the mall and I bought one of those soft pretzels for the girls to snack on while I ran some errands in the mall and Hailey ate at least half of it.  Paige, barely a bite.  Hailey is loving solid foods and will put anything that I place on her tray in her mouth.  I love it!  She eats, plays happily and then wants to sleep.  Normal things of a human!

If you have any suggestions on what a 2 1/2 year old will eat, please share.  I'll try a smoothie tomorrow.  But, I'm desperate.  Paige really is miserable and therefore, so are Brian and I.

Pincer Grasp

Hailey just started eating Cheerios this weekend.  I think it's about 2 weeks too early, but it helps to keep her occupied in the high chair while we eat meals.  She really is just practicing her "pincer" grasp with them right now.  She does get a couple in her mouth, but really just plays with them.  Can hardly believe how fast she's growing.
